Damon Locks wears a lot of hats and handles all of them well. He first made a name for himself as the lead vocalist and percussionist of Trenchmouth, the Chicago post hardcore band he formed in 1988 alongside Fred Armisen, which put out five albums before calling it quits in 1997. From there he co founded the Eternals, keeping that experimental energy going across another five records stretching into 2016. Locks has also been a key voice in the Exploding Star Orchestra, the ensemble led by Rob Mazurek, and his first appearance with the group was on a collaboration with the late composer Bill Dixon. His own project, Black Monument Ensemble, a fifteen piece jazz group he founded in 2015, brought him serious attention with the 2019 International Anthem release Where Future Unfolds, followed by the pandemic era Now. In 2025 he stepped out on his own with List of Demands, his first solo album.
