About
Norwegian tubist Daniel Herskedal has spent years quietly redefining what the tuba can do in a jazz context, building a catalog that moves between introspective ambient jazz and richly textured ensemble work. Based out of Norway's jazz scene, he has collaborated with some of the most interesting voices around, including Marius Neset, Django Bates, and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, while also winning prizes at international competitions in Getxo and Hoeilaart. His solo records on Edition Records form the core of his output, with albums like Slow Eastbound Train and Voyage showing a patient, atmospheric sensibility. His 2022 album Out of the Fog continued that thread, and he kept the momentum going with Call for Winter II: Resonance in 2024 and Movements of Air in 2025, suggesting a composer who is very much in his stride right now.
