About
Daniel Reuss has spent decades shaping some of Europe's finest choral ensembles, and his name is essentially synonymous with Cappella Amsterdam, the professional choir he transformed into one of the most sought after in the Netherlands from 1990 onward. His taste runs wide: from Stravinsky's Les Noces and Mass to the music of Wolfgang Rihm, Frank Martin and Messiaen, he has a knack for programming that keeps choral music feeling alive rather than musty. His recording of Martin and Messiaen with the RIAS Kammerchor picked up both the French Diapason d'or de l'année 2004 and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, which tells you something about the level he operates at. Pierre Boulez invited him to lead the Lucerne Festival Academy in 2006, and his 2007 operatic debut at the English National Opera with Händel's Agrippina showed the range of his conducting ambitions. Recent releases on Pentatone include David Lang's The Writings and a late Stravinsky programme with Cappella Amsterdam.
