About
David Eugene Edwards occupies a genuinely singular space in American music, blending old time folk, punk, medieval sounds, Native American music, and gothic rock into something that fits neatly into no genre at all. He is best known as the driving force behind 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand, where his deeply personal Christian faith shapes nearly every lyric, dealing with pain, conflict, and redemption in ways that have kept him outside both the Christian music world and the mainstream secular one. As he puts it, neither camp wants it, and he is fine with that. Beyond those two bands, Edwards has kept busy in unexpected directions. He joined Crime and the City Solution in 2012, and later collaborated with fellow member Alexander Hacke on the 2018 album Risha. He also teamed up with French synthwave artist Carpenter Brut in 2020 on the track Fab Tool. In 2023 he released his first solo album, Hyacinth, produced by Ben Chisholm, a musician from Chelsea Wolfe's backing band, with a second solo record titled Mercurial Silence announced for 2026.
