About
Davine is a Dutch chansonnière who has built her work around the French chanson tradition, bringing warmth, humour and a thread of melancholy to everything she performs. Her show Bistrot de la Chanson, created with storyteller Bas Opgenoorth and directed by Jochen Otten, is a good example of what she does: weaving together well known classics and lesser heard chanson gems into a theatrical whole, accompanied by guitar and accordion. She performs under her full name Davine Daamen and her voice carries the kind of sparkling, expressive quality that suits the intimacy of the genre. The repertoire includes covers such as Frida Boccara's Un Pays Pour Nous, placed alongside a mix of storytelling and song that explores what makes French chanson so persistently affecting.
