About
De Hûnekop are a four piece rock band from Friesland who sing entirely in West Frisian, a choice that gives them a fiercely local identity without limiting their reach. Their sound mixes country, blues, rock and punk into what fans call "arbeidersrock" or rough and tumble workers' music, drawing comparisons to the spirit of Hank Williams and Johnny Cash. After winning the Friesland Pop Talent Award in 2010, they steadily built a following well beyond their home province. Their 2014 double album Fiif Jier Smoar collected their biggest crowd favourites and marked the moment the band expanded from a trio to a quartet. A high point came in 2022 when the single Wy kam fram Fryslân, recorded with Oele Plop, cracked the Dutch Top 2000 at number 788 and landed in the top five most watched music videos in the Netherlands.
