About
Frank Vander linden swapped his journalism career at the Belgian magazine Humo for life as a full time musician, and the gamble paid off. As the frontman and driving force of De Mens, the Brussels Flemish rock band he formed with Michel de Coster and Dirk Jans, he built a reputation for sharp, nuanced Dutch lyrics full of wordplay. Switching from English to his native language early on turned out to be a key move. Over three decades the band stacked up a solid catalogue of albums and radio hits, from early singles like "Dit is mijn huis" and "Irene" through to later crowd favourites "Kamer in Amsterdam" and "Luide Muziek in Kleine Auto's". Along the way Vander linden became a familiar face on Belgian television and a respected spoken word performer, and in 2022 the band marked thirty years together with a full concert tour. A collaboration with Sarah Bettens on "Alsof we belangrijk zijn" showed they are never short of interesting moves.
