Dead by April have been blending pop sensibility with metalcore aggression since forming in Gothenburg in 2007, and that tension between hooky clean vocals and brutal growls is basically their signature. The dual vocal approach, melodic leads sitting right alongside crushing heaviness, gave both their self titled debut and the follow up Incomparable a sound that divided metal purists but pulled in a much wider crowd. Incomparable actually debuted at number two on the Swedish album charts, beaten only by a Melissa Horn record that had already gone gold. They even took a swing at Melodifestivalen in 2012, finishing seventh with the song "Mystery". Plenty of lineup shuffles over the years have not slowed them down, and Pontus Hjelm and Markus Wesslén have been the constants holding it all together. Recent videos like "Break My Fall", "Dreamlike" and the collaboration "Outcome" with Smash Into Pieces show the band still very much at work.
