Delbert McClinton plays harmonica, guitar, and piano, and he once gave a young John Lennon a lesson in blues harmonica technique while touring the UK with Bruce Channel in the early 1960s. That kind of story says a lot about the company he has kept throughout a long career rooted in blues, country, soul, and roots rock. His 1980 single "Giving It Up for Your Love" cracked the Billboard Top 10, and his songwriting fed hits for others too, including Emmylou Harris, whose recording of his "Two More Bottles of Wine" went to number one in 1978. Four Grammy Awards sit on his shelf, covering blues and rock categories across nearly three decades of work. His duet with Bonnie Raitt, "Good Man, Good Woman", picked up a Grammy in 1992, and his 2019 album Tall, Dark and Handsome earned him a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2020. He also wrote "Weatherman", the track threaded through the opening and closing of the 1993 film Groundhog Day.
