About
Before he went country, Derek Ryan was part of D Side, the Irish pop act that racked up top 10 hits in the UK and Ireland with tracks like "Speechless", "Invisible" and "Real World", the last of which went multi platinum in Ireland. They even scored a number one single in Japan in 2005 before calling it a day in 2006 after three studio albums. Ryan then made a pretty sharp left turn into country and Irish traditional music, a genre shift that paid off big. His song "God's Plan" got serious radio airplay and was later recorded by Daniel O'Donnell, which is about as solid a stamp of approval as Irish country gets. He followed that with a run of albums, and both The Simple Things and One Good Night hit number one on the Irish albums chart. He also set up his own label, Ryan Records, and has kept releasing music, collaborating with artists like Lisa McHugh and Philomena Begley along the way.
