Höhner have been one of Cologne's most beloved bands since 1972, singing almost entirely in Kölsch, the local dialect of the city. What started with the band performing in chicken costumes and tossing real feathers into the crowd has grown into a decades long career built on carnival anthems and big stadium moments. Songs like "Viva Colonia", "Echte Fründe" and "Die Karawane zieht weiter" are fixtures of Cologne carnival, and "Viva Colonia" became a nationwide phenomenon after spreading well beyond the Rhine. Their biggest chart moment came in 2007 when "Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?" hit number one in Germany after they performed it live at the World Men's Handball Championship finals. The album Da Simmer Dabei! Die Grössten Partyhits spent eight weeks in the German top 50 that same year. More recently they have kept releasing new material, with tracks like "Prinzessin" and "Es ist nicht so, wie du denkst" appearing in 2023.
