About
Also known as: Dive
DIIV built their sound around hazy, hypnotic guitar textures that pull equally from krautrock, shoegaze, and the jangly end of 80s indie, and their debut album Oshin turned heads fast when it landed in 2012. Pitchfork and Stereogum both ranked it among the best albums of that year, and it introduced a band that felt like they were channeling Nirvana and obscure Malian guitar players in the same breath. Their second album, Is the Is Are, arrived in 2016 after a notoriously turbulent stretch, but the band came through it and kept going. Deceiver followed in 2019, and their fourth album Frog in Boiling Water dropped in 2024 to a warm reception. The current lineup of Zachary Cole Smith, Andrew Bailey, Colin Caulfield, and Ben Newman has settled into something genuinely cohesive, and the band continues to operate out of Brooklyn on the Captured Tracks label.
