About
Also known as: DJ Assault aka Craig Diamonds
Detroit's Craig Adams, who records as DJ Assault and Craig Diamonds, is widely credited with pioneering the ghettotech sound, a raw collision of techno, electro, and Miami bass loaded with explicit, comedic lyrics. He built his reputation in the mid 90s through tracks like "Sex on the Beach" and "Ass and Titties" on Electrofunk Records and Assault Rifle Records, made with producer Mr. De'. Those records spread well beyond Detroit and turned him into a cult figure in underground dance music. In the mid 2000s he launched his own label, Jefferson Ave, giving him full control over his output. He has consistently pushed back against the "ghettotech" label despite being seen as its defining voice, and he counts Farley Jackmaster Funk, Bad Boy Bill, and Julian Jumpin Perez among his influences. In 2023, Berlin venues Kater Blau and HÖR Berlin cancelled his bookings over unspecified social media posts, a decision that drew criticism from parts of the dance music community.
