About
DjRUM, the stage name of Felix Manuel, makes electronic music that refuses to sit still. His productions blend jazz, dubstep, techno, ambient and plenty of corners in between, and his DJ sets are just as restless, shifting between rave floor energy and mellow trip hop or classical textures, often across three turntables on vinyl. His 2018 album Portrait with Firewood was a real step forward, drawing on performance artist Marina Abramović and weaving in chamber instruments, spoken word, and his own piano improvisations alongside cello from Zosia Jagodzinska. His third album Under Tangled Silence, released in 2025 on Houndstooth, took eight years to make, partly because a melted laptop motherboard wiped a significant chunk of his work. The finished record features harp, percussion, mbira, and more cello from Jagodzinska, and hit number one on the UK official dance album charts. The 2024 EP Meaning's Edge, which preceded it, brought in bansuri and shakuhachi flutes and peaked at number two on the same chart, signalling that Manuel was building toward something serious.
