Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet

About

Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet is one of the younger saxophone quartets to come out of the Netherlands, part of a scene that has grown steadily since the Aurelia Saxophone Quartet's early successes. They've already picked up the Dutch Classical Talent Award, which says plenty about where they sit in the classical world. What makes them interesting is how they look beyond the usual saxophone repertoire. They've teamed up with violinist Rebecca Roozeman, winner of the Oskar Back Prize at the Dutch Violin Competition, for a hybrid quintet that blends saxophones with a solo violin. Their programme for that pairing centres on Peter Vigh's arrangement of Arvo Pärt's Fratres. Vigh is the alto saxophonist of the Berlage Saxophone Quartet, and the arrangement lets violin and saxophones merge into one sound while each keeps its own strong character.
