Formed in 2012 by Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and Cancerslug frontman Alex Story, Doyle blends punk rock and heavy metal with full on horror theatrics. The band grew directly out of von Frankenstein's previous project Gorgeous Frankenstein, with much of that lineup carrying over into the new group. Their 2013 debut Abominator set the template: Story wrote the lyrics, von Frankenstein handled all the music and production, and both men took the stage as monster characters inspired by vintage horror films. Von Frankenstein went full Frankenstein's monster, devilock and all, while Story transformed into a werewolf drawn from the classic 1940s Wolf Man. The band's sophomore record Doyle II: As We Die arrived in 2017, and the touring history between those two albums is a story in itself. Cancelled runs with Gwar after the loss of Dave Brockie, a revolving door of drummers, and dates with special guest John 5 from Rob Zombie all kept the band in the headlines. In 2016, von Frankenstein also reunited with Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only to reform the Misfits, which only added to the band's profile.
