About
Also known as: 3. Wahl
Rostock punk veterans Dritte Wahl have been one of the most politically sharp acts in the German punk scene since forming in 1986. Their lyrics, always in German, tackle hard subjects head on: the 1992 Rostock Lichtenhagen anti immigrant riots, the violent clearing of squatted houses in East Berlin, and the controversial death of Red Army Faction member Wolfgang Grams. That kind of unflinching directness, combined with a sound that pulls in metal influences alongside the punk grit, has earned them a loyal following well beyond their hometown. They toured Europe with the Exploited in 2003 and even played Cuba in 2010. After losing founding member and vocalist Busch'n to stomach cancer in 2005, the band pushed on rather than call it quits, which is exactly what he had wanted. Their 2015 album Geblitzdingst was their first to crack the German charts, and 2020's 3D climbed all the way to number six. They run their own label, Dritte Wahl Records, and have released over ten studio albums on it.
