About
Drug Church started as a side project for Patrick Kindlon, frontman of Self Defense Family, and has since grown into one of post hardcore's more distinctive acts. Based in Albany, New York, the band mixes the raw aggression of hardcore punk in the vein of Black Flag with grunge textures and alternative rock, while Kindlon's lyrics take a sharp, often darkly funny look at social and personal themes. Notably, he writes everything in the studio with no pre existing lyric bank, which gives the songs a spontaneous, unfiltered quality. Their 2018 album Cheer, released on Pure Noise Records, earned Kerrang! Magazine's Album of the Week and put the band on a wider radar. They followed it with Hygiene in 2022 and then Prude in October 2024, the latter featuring singles like "Demolition Man" and "Myopic" and music videos starring actor Biff Wiff. Most recently, tracks "Unlicensed Hall Monitor" and "Weed Pin" surfaced in early 2025, suggesting the band is far from slowing down.
