About
Edward Gardner has been one of the most consistently in demand conductors in British classical music for two decades, building his reputation through a string of high profile posts rather than a single breakthrough moment. He served as music director of English National Opera from 2007 to 2015, a stint that cemented his standing in the operatic world, and spent years as principal guest conductor of both the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, where he eventually became chief conductor and later honorary conductor. Since the 2021 season he has led the London Philharmonic Orchestra as principal conductor, and in 2024 he took on the music director role at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. His recordings for Chandos have covered music by Berlioz, Lutosławski and Britten, and he has also collaborated with Alison Balsom and Kate Royal on EMI Classics releases.
