Emilie Autumn built her own lane by mixing baroque violin, Victorian aesthetics, and industrial electronics into something she calls "Victoriandustrial", a sound that genuinely defies easy categorisation. Performing alongside her all female troupe The Bloody Crumpets, her live shows blend cabaret theatrics, burlesque, and glam rock into full on spectacle. She launched her own label, Traitor Records, early in her career, recording her debut classical violin album in a single day at seventeen, then later expanding into the lush fantasy rock of Enchant and the darker, more abrasive Opheliac. She spent time in Courtney Love's backing band on the 2004 America's Sweetheart tour before returning to Europe, and her reach eventually extended into film, playing the Painted Doll in Darren Lynn Bousman's The Devil's Carnival and its sequel Alleluia! The Devil's Carnival. Her 2012 album Fight Like a Girl showed no signs of her pulling back from the grand, confrontational style she had been building since the late nineties.
