About
Emma Rawicz has synesthesia, specifically chromesthesia, which means she literally sees colours when she hears sounds. That condition runs right through her second album Chroma, released on ACT Music, a record of original compositions whose title nods to the Ancient Greek word for colour. It gives her music a conceptual backbone that goes well beyond typical jazz fusion territory. Based in London, Rawicz leads her own jazz orchestra and is one of the regular hosts of the Late Late Shows at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. She plays saxophone and composes all her own material, and Jazz FM has featured her as an expert on John Coltrane. Her list of accolades includes Jazz Newcomer of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2022 and a Drake YolanDa award in 2021, which points to a talent that serious jazz heads are clearly paying close attention to.
