Theo Croker carries serious jazz bloodlines: his grandfather was Grammy Award winning trumpeter Doc Cheatham, and Croker has more than lived up to that legacy. The Florida born trumpeter, composer, producer and vocalist spent seven years in Shanghai, where he served as music director for an Asia Uncut Star Network late night TV show and became the first artist in residence at the historic Peace Hotel Jazz Bar. That stretch abroad pushed his sound well beyond straight ahead jazz, folding in R&B, hip hop, salsa and blues. His third album, Afro Physicist, came together with Dee Dee Bridgewater producing, Roy Hargrove on vocals, and Karriem Riggins on drums, and it remains one of his most celebrated records. Since then Croker has kept his profile high both in jazz circles and beyond. He has appeared on albums by J. Cole, Common and Ari Lennox, while his own releases have continued to stretch the genre. Star People Nation featured a collab with reggae artist Chronixx, and BLK2Life and Love Quantum pushed further into contemporary jazz fusion territory. His most recent album, Dream Manifest, dropped in 2025.
