About
Enji, the Mongolian jazz singer and songwriter born Erkhembayar Enkhjargal, brings something genuinely rare to contemporary jazz: a deep grounding in Mongolian folk traditions, including Urtin Duu, a form of throat singing over a thousand years old. That cultural thread runs through everything she does, whether she's performing intimate club sets in Munich or recording with collaborators like Billy Hart and Joana Queiroz. Deutschlandfunk singled out her blend of jazz and folk rooted in Mongolian song traditions as something truly distinct. She put out her debut album Mongolian Song in 2018, then Ursgal in 2021, a record driven largely by her own compositions. Her third album Ulaan followed in 2023, and in May 2025 she released her fourth studio album Sonor. She has performed in South Korea for the Goethe Institut and played in South Africa alongside Kevin Gibson and Andrew Lilley, building a genuinely international footprint from a Munich base.
