Eric Church has always played things his own way, which is probably why Rascal Flatts fired him for running over his set time on their tour, only for his replacement to turn out to be a then unknown Taylor Swift. That story says a lot about him. Based in Nashville but rooted in Granite Falls, North Carolina, Church makes country music with real grit to it, somewhere between country rock and country pop, and he has a knack for writing songs that stick. Working closely with producer Jay Joyce, he built a catalog that includes seven studio albums through Capitol Nashville, racking up multiple number one hits along the way. His 2011 album Chief was the breakthrough moment, delivering his first chart toppers "Drink in My Hand" and "Springsteen". He followed that with The Outsiders, Mr. Misunderstood, and Desperate Man before going big with the 2021 triple album Heart and Soul. He also collaborated with Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan on "The Only Way I Know", and scored a number one with Keith Urban on "Raise 'Em Up". He is also a minority owner of the Charlotte Hornets, because of course he is.
