About
Few classical musicians have done more to prove the recorder is a serious instrument than Erik Bosgraaf. The Dutch player has an unusually wide range, moving from Jacob van Eyck and Vivaldi through to Pierre Boulez, a transcription of whose clarinet piece Dialogue de l'ombre double Boulez personally authorized. That Van Eyck box from 2007 was a genuine surprise hit, selling over 25,000 copies. In 2011 he won the Nederlandse Muziekprijs, the top national music prize, becoming the first recorder player to receive it. He co founded the ensemble Cordevento in 2005 with guitarist Izhar Elias and harpsichordist Alessandro Pianu, and the group has grown from a chamber trio into a small baroque orchestra tackling everything from 17th century Spanish repertoire to Bach concertos. He also works regularly with major orchestras including the Dallas Symphony and the Netherlands Kamerorkest. Since 2024 he has served as Artistic Director of the London International Festival of Early Music.
