About
Yuri Honing is a Dutch saxophonist who has picked up three Edison Awards, the Dutch music industry's big prize, and he's done it in more than one musical lane. His first win came in 2002 for Seven, a record made with the late Paul Bley on piano, Gary Peacock on bass and Paul Motian on drums. The Penguin Guide to Jazz gave it four stars out of five. He's also made noise with Wired Paradise, a fusion band that leaned on rock influences and electric guitars. In 2012 he went back to a stripped down format and formed his Acoustic Quartet, and that group took the Edison for Best Instrumental Jazz Album in 2016 with Desire, then did it again for Goldbrun in 2018. For a few years he also ran a special concert series called Winterreise at Paradiso in Amsterdam, wrapping up with a final show there in December 2015.
