About

Also known as: فاطمة سعيد

Egyptian soprano Fatma Said has built a career that bridges classical European opera with Arabic and North African musical traditions in a genuinely unusual way. Born in Cairo and now based between London and Berlin, she became the first Egyptian soprano to perform at La Scala, where she sang Pamina in Peter Stein's production of The Magic Flute. She has since appeared at Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, and many other major venues, taking on roles in operas from Falstaff to La Cenerentola. Her debut album El Nour on Warner Classics won the BBC Music Magazine Vocal Award and the Gramophone Young Artist of the Year in 2021, and its mix of French, Spanish, and Arabic songs shows exactly what makes her stand out. Her follow up Kaleidoscope went even further, pulling together tango, chanson, jazz, and opera into one record. Most recently she released Lieder in early 2025. Beyond the concert hall, she performed at Global Citizen Live in Paris alongside Elton John and Ed Sheeran, and has appeared at the United Nations to advocate for musical education.
