About
Also known as: Fiona Apple McAfee-Maggart
Few artists can claim five albums in the Billboard 200 top 20, but Fiona Apple has done exactly that, selling over 15 million records worldwide along the way. Her debut, Tidal, landed in 1996 when she was still a teenager, and the smoldering single Criminal turned her into a name almost overnight. The piano driven, emotionally raw style she established there only deepened over time. When the Pawn followed in 1999 with Jon Brion producing, earning platinum status and serious critical respect. Her fourth album The Idler Wheel scored a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album, and then Fetch the Bolt Cutters in 2020 went one better, actually winning in that category as well as Best Rock Performance. Three of her albums appear on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list, which tells you everything about how her reputation has held up.
