About
Gabriel Ríos is a Puerto Rican singer songwriter who has spent most of his career in Belgium, blending Latin, hip hop, rock and electronic influences into a sound that doesn't sit still for long. His 2004 debut Ghostboy, produced by Jo Bogaert of Technotronic fame, got him airplay across Belgium, the Netherlands and France, and by 2007 he had picked up a European Border Breakers Award for reaching audiences beyond his home country. The single "Gold", released as part of a monthly song series he ran between 2013 and 2014, became a genuine hit in Flanders and went wider after an unauthorized tropical house remix by Australian producer Thomas Jack took off online. His range keeps expanding. The Dangerous Return saw him strip back the electronics in favour of Belgian jazz pianist Jef Neve and percussionist Kobe Proesmans. Then in 2021 he released Flore, a largely Spanish language album built around reinterpretations of Latin American and Caribbean songs, with one standout track being a duet with Devendra Banhart. Five studio albums in and he's still hard to pin down.
