About
Also known as: Gabriella Cimli, Gabrielle Cilmi
Gabriella Cilmi's raspy contralto got her compared to Amy Winehouse early on, and it's what the Melbourne born singer built her name on. Her debut single "Sweet About Me" went to number one in Australia and climbed to number six in the UK, helped along by a worldwide deodorant campaign. That run, plus the album Lessons to Be Learned, earned her six ARIA Awards in 2008, including Single of the Year and Best Female Artist, and a BRIT nomination the following January. She followed up with Ten in 2010, led by "On a Mission", then The Sting in 2013. In 2019 she put out a six track EP called The Water, which she described as a taste of a studio album still to come. Along the way she supported the Sugababes, James Blunt and Nouvelle Vague, played Glastonbury's Pyramid stage, and covered "Warm This Winter" for a Christmas ad that reached the UK top 25.
