About

Also known as: The Generationals

New Orleans duo Generationals, Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer, came together after their previous band The Eames Era dissolved, and wasted little time building a sound that critics compared to the British Invasion, Stax soul, and 1950s doo wop, all filtered through a sharp indie pop sensibility. Their 2009 debut Con Law drew glowing notices from AllMusic and Pitchfork alike, and the song "When They Fight, They Fight" turned up in a Bloomingdale's Christmas ad, a Farrelly brothers film, an Amazon Kindle campaign, and an episode of Suits, which says a lot about how catchily they package that vintage warmth. They kept the momentum going with the EP Trust in 2010 and the follow up album Actor Caster in 2011, then signed to Polyvinyl Records for their third record Heza in 2013. Along the way they opened for Broken Social Scene and Two Door Cinema Club, and placed songs in commercials for Reese's and in the film Going the Distance. Both members handle vocals and guitars, keeping the setup lean and the hooks front and centre.
