God Dethroned come from Beilen, in the Dutch province of Drenthe, and have been building their sound since the early 1990s. The band, anchored by Henri Sattler, occupies the territory where death metal and black metal converge: tight, venomous riffs sit alongside melody that exists not to soften things but to make the darkness sharper. That combination, sometimes called blackened death metal, has kept them going for well over three decades without any obvious softening of intent. Their catalogue stretches across themes of blasphemy and war, and includes concept records among the highlights. Passiondale is probably the best known of these. The album The Judas Paradox, released through Reigning Phoenix Music, shows the band still operating with the same relentless energy that defined their earliest work.
