Good Riddance have been flying the flag for melodic hardcore out of Santa Cruz, California since 1986, built around vocalist Russ Rankin and guitarist Luke Pabich. Their sound fuses fast punk energy with genuinely catchy melodies, and lyrically they have never been shy about taking aim at American politics and society alongside more personal themes of struggle and alienation. All seven of their Fat Wreck Chords albums landed before a 2007 breakup that ended with a farewell show recorded as Remain in Memory: The Final Show. The reunion in 2012 brought back the classic lineup of Rankin, Pabich, bassist Chuck Platt and drummer Sean Sellers, and the band picked up right where they left off. Peace in Our Time followed in 2015, then Thoughts and Prayers in 2019, and a tenth studio album Before the World Caves In arrived in 2026. Every member of the band is vegan or vegetarian, and Good Riddance have long been vocal supporters of animal rights and the United States Green Party, making their politics as much a part of their identity as the music itself.
