About
Also known as: Penny Wise
Named after Stephen King's murderous clown, Pennywise have been one of Southern California's most consistent punk outfits since forming in Hermosa Beach in 1988. They found their commercial footing with 1995's About Time, the record that cracked the Billboard 200 and put them alongside fellow California acts like NOFX, Rancid, and The Offspring during punk's mid nineties surge. By 2007 they had independently shifted over three million records worldwide, all on Epitaph Records. The band's story has had some genuinely heavy chapters. Founding bassist Jason Thirsk died in 1996, and Full Circle, the album recorded in the immediate aftermath, was dedicated to him. A brief split saw frontman Jim Lindberg replaced by Ignite's Zoli Téglás, who appeared on the 2012 album All or Nothing before Lindberg returned. The current lineup of Lindberg, guitarist Fletcher Dragge, bassist Randy Bradbury, and drummer Byron McMackin has kept the skate punk flame burning across twelve studio albums.
