About
Guster spent their early years as a college band recording independently, but the 1999 album Lost and Gone Forever was the real turning point, landing them on the Adult Top 40 with "Fa Fa" and getting them onto the Late Show with David Letterman. Their sound sits somewhere between alternative rock and acoustic pop, with a knack for crafting songs that show up in films and TV shows. "Satellite" is probably their most placed track, appearing in Martian Child and earning the band their first gold record in 2018, nearly a decade after the song came out. Over the years Guster built a loyal following through heavy touring and a fan friendly taping policy that helped their live recordings circulate freely. Ganging Up on the Sun cracked the top 25 of the Billboard 200, and they kept releasing records steadily through the 2010s, including Evermotion in 2015 and Look Alive in 2019. They have always had a bit of a DIY streak, running their own Ocho Mule label and once famously playing an impromptu street set in front of a dumpster in Pittsburgh after getting snowed in.
