About
Head for the Hills push bluegrass well past its traditional borders, blending in jazz, hip hop, gypsy jazz, and indie rock without losing the acoustic core. The Fort Collins, Colorado four piece have been at it since 2003, and all four members pull double duty as singers and songwriters, giving the band a democratic, layered sound. Their 2010 self titled record was produced by Drew Emmitt and recorded at Bill Nershi's home studio, engineered by Gus Skinas, the same person who digitally remastered Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, with Vance Powell handling the mix. Their 2014 album Blue Ruin pushed even further, leaning into hip hop and gypsy jazz influences. Along the way they've played Telluride Bluegrass Festival, High Sierra, SXSW, and RockyGrass, and have turned up on NPR's eTown as well.
