About

Also known as: Hugh Anthony Cregg, Hugh Anthony Cregg III, Hugh Cregg

Huey Lewis built his reputation as the frontman of Huey Lewis and the News, the band whose third album Sports became one of the best selling pop records of all time, hitting number one in 1984 and spawning four hit singles. Before that, he cut his teeth with the Bay Area group Clover through the 1970s, picked up serious harmonica chops busking in Madrid, and even played on Thin Lizzy's live album Live and Dangerous. The band also contributed to one of the most iconic film soundtracks of the 1980s with their work on Back to the Future. Lewis sang lead and played harmonica throughout the News's run, and co wrote much of their catalogue. Their commercial breakthrough came with Picture This in 1982, lifted by the Mutt Lange penned single Do You Believe in Love, but Sports was the record that made them a household name. In 2018, hearing loss forced Lewis into retirement from performing, closing out a run that made him one of rock and blue eyed soul's most recognisable voices.
