About
Also known as: Isbell, Michael Jason Isbell
Jason Isbell spent six years as a guitarist and songwriter for Drive By Truckers, contributing to albums like Decoration Day and The Dirty South before stepping out on his own in 2007. His writing was always a cut above, and that became undeniable with 2013's Southeastern, a record that landed on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, went gold, and gave the world "Cover Me Up", which won Song of the Year at the Americana Music Honors and Awards. Since then, Isbell and his backing band the 400 Unit have built one of the most consistent runs in American roots music, with The Nashville Sound featuring the Grammy winning "If We Were Vampires" and Weathervanes arriving in 2023. His solo record Foxes in the Snow followed in early 2025. Six Grammy wins across ten nominations tell part of the story, but it's the emotional weight of his lyrics, praised by everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Zach Bryan, that keeps people coming back.
