About

Also known as: J C Fogerty, J. C. Fogerty, John Cameron Fogerty, John Fogarty, The Blue Ridge Rangers

John Fogerty wrote some of the most instantly recognizable songs in rock history, including "Proud Mary", "Bad Moon Rising", "Fortunate Son" and "Who'll Stop the Rain", all as the driving force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival. CCR racked up nine Top 10 singles and eight gold albums between 1968 and 1972, a run that still sounds fresh. Fogerty handled lead vocals, lead guitar and nearly all the songwriting, crafting a swampy, roots drenched sound that drew on blues, folk and Southern rock despite him growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area. After CCR dissolved, Fogerty built a solo career that has lasted decades. His 1985 album Centerfield was a major US success, and he won a Grammy for Blue Moon Swamp in 1997. Along the way he fought a lawsuit from Fantasy Records over alleged self plagiarism and won by literally playing both songs in the courtroom. Rolling Stone ranks him among the 100 Greatest Songwriters and 100 Greatest Singers, and the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl put it plainly: everybody loves Fogerty's music, everybody.
