About
John Grant spent years fronting the Czars, a Denver alternative rock band that earned critical respect but little commercial traction across six albums. When the band dissolved in 2006, he vanished into a run of odd jobs in New York City before Midlake pulled him back to music. That reunion produced Queen of Denmark, his 2010 debut solo record that Mojo called the best album of the year. He followed it by moving to Iceland, where a friendship with GusGus producer Biggi Veira steered him toward electronic textures on Pale Green Ghosts, which Rough Trade also named album of the year. His albums keep landing well in the UK, with Grey Tickles, Black Pressure reaching the top five there. Grant holds dual American and Icelandic citizenship, has collaborated with everyone from Sinéad O'Connor to Kylie Minogue, and since 2018 has fronted Creep Show, a side project with the members of Wrangler. His most recent album, The Art of the Lie, arrived in 2024.
