About

Also known as: J.Parr, John Stephen Parr, Jon Parr, Parr, John

Best known for the massive 1985 hit "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)", John Parr is an English rock musician from Worksop whose chart credentials go well beyond that one iconic song. He and David Foster wrote "St. Elmo's Fire" as a tribute to wheelchair athlete and activist Rick Hansen, and it shot to No.1 in the US while earning Parr a Grammy nomination. Before that, he was already cracking the US Top 40 with "Naughty Naughty" and touring arenas across America supporting Toto. Parr has written and performed 12 major film theme songs, including tracks for Three Men and a Baby and The Running Man, and he co wrote "Under a Raging Moon" for Roger Daltrey as a tribute to Keith Moon. He also worked closely with Marilyn Martin, writing and producing material for her debut album including the hit "Night Moves". Beyond music, he has moved into filmmaking, with his 2022 documentary Unconquered picking up 170 festival awards worldwide.
