Few artists have ever pulled off the range that Johnny Cash managed across his career. His deep bass baritone voice and the chugging train like guitar rhythms of his backing band the Tennessee Three gave him an instantly recognizable sound that cut across country, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. Hits like "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", and "Folsom Prison Blues" cemented him as a country legend, but he never stayed comfortably in one lane. He performed free concerts in prisons, duetted with June Carter Cash on "Jackson", and delivered a wry side with tracks like "A Boy Named Sue" and "One Piece at a Time". In his final years, Cash collaborated with producer Rick Rubin on a series of stripped back recordings that introduced him to a whole new generation. His cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" became one of the most talked about recordings of his entire career, alongside covers of Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage" and Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus". He sold more than 90 million records worldwide and remains one of only a handful of artists inducted into the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.
