Jon Anderson's voice is one of the most distinctive in rock: a high, pure tenor that helped define progressive rock through his decades as the frontman and chief lyricist of Yes. Co founding the band with bassist Chris Squire in 1968, he shaped their sound on landmark albums like Fragile, The Yes Album, and Close to the Edge, records that still set the standard for ambitious, orchestrated rock. He left and rejoined Yes across three separate stints, ending his last tenure in 2008. Outside Yes, Anderson has kept busy in directions that suit his adventurous streak. His 1976 debut Olias of Sunhillow was an entirely solo composed concept album, and he has since collaborated with Vangelis as Jon and Vangelis, with Roine Stolt as Anderson/Stolt, and with Jean Luc Ponty. He has also contributed to records by King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, Toto, and Tangerine Dream, among others. In 2017 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Yes.
