Jon Gomm turns a single acoustic guitar into something that sounds like a full band, drummer included. He hits the body of the guitar for snare and bass drum sounds, retunes the strings mid performance for deep bass, and coaxes synthesizer like harmonics from the upper frets. It's a style he honed through years of solo gigging around Leeds, and it genuinely has to be seen to be believed. His song "Passionflower" went viral after Stephen Fry tweeted a single word about it in 2012, which sent Gomm on gigs and tours around the world almost overnight. He has four studio albums to his name, from the no overdubs, all single takes debut Hypertension through to The Faintest Idea in 2020. His 2013 record Secrets Nobody Keeps was fully crowd funded in just four weeks, and "Passionflower" later landed at number six in Total Guitar's list of the 50 greatest acoustic songs of all time. Gomm keeps things firmly independent, favouring small theatres, arts centres, and rural ale pubs over corporate festivals.
