Josee Koning is a Dutch singer who fronts a programme dedicated to the music of Sergio Mendes, performing alongside fellow vocalist Egle Petrosiute under the title 60 Years of Brasil '66. The show draws on Mendes's catalogue spanning bossanova, samba, pop and jazz, including his celebrated Brazilian reworkings of songs like The Fool on the Hill and Scarborough Fair. Koning and Petrosiute bring their own energetic take to the material, backed by a trio featuring pianist Hans Vroomans, drummer Yorán Vroom and Brazilian bassist Matheus Nicolaiewsky. Together the group channels the warmth and rhythmic drive that made Mendes one of the most distinctive Brazilian artists of his era.
