Josh Ritter is one of those rare singer songwriters who can spin a full narrative into a three minute folk song and make it feel effortless. The Moscow, Idaho native performs with his Royal City Band and has built a devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic, particularly in Ireland, where his third record Hello Starling debuted at number two on the charts. Paste magazine named him one of the 100 Greatest Living Songwriters in 2006, the same year Stephen King declared his album The Animal Years the best record of that year in his Entertainment Weekly column. His catalog runs deep, from the raw self released Golden Age of Radio to the critically praised Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, which earned him spots on Late Show with David Letterman and Later with Jools Holland. His song Change of Time found its way into the TV series Parenthood and a Natalie Portman film trailer. More recent releases include Sermon on the Rocks and the 2015 single Homecoming, showing he has kept his storytelling instincts sharp.
