About
Also known as: Judith Marjorie Collins, ジュディ・コリンズ
Judy Collins has a knack for finding great songs before everyone else does. She was among the first to record Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne", and she did the same with writers like Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman and Richard Fariña long before they were household names. Her 1967 version of Mitchell's "Both Sides, Now" went to No. 8 in the US and won her a first Grammy. The folk revival of the early 1960s is where she started, with a debut album of traditional songs, but her taste has always roamed from country to show tunes to rock and roll. Her biggest hit came with Stephen Sondheim's "Send in the Clowns" in 1975, and her take on "Amazing Grace" was later preserved in the National Recording Registry. She's also an Oscar nominated documentary director. In 2019, at 80, she landed her first No. 1 album, Winter Stories, and in 2022 she put out Spellbound, her first record made up entirely of her own songs.
