Junip might be the vehicle for José González's quieter, more expansive side, but the Gothenburg folk rock group is very much its own thing. González shares the wheel with Tobias Winterkorn, whose organ and Moog synthesizer give Junip a textured, atmospheric quality that sits somewhere between folk warmth and electronic drift. Their 2010 debut album Fields put them on the map, and the 2013 self titled follow up cemented their reputation for slow burning, emotionally charged songwriting. "Line of Fire" in particular took on a life of its own, turning up in Breaking Bad, The Blacklist, and beyond. Songs like "Far Away" and "Without You" have shown up across film, TV, and video games, including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Red Dead Redemption, which says a lot about the mood their music carries.
