About
Kaliber 44 are widely considered the most influential hip hop group to ever come out of Poland. Formed in Katowice in 1993, they pioneered what they called hardcore psycho rap, and their 1996 debut 'Księga Tajemnicza. Prolog' is seen as the first Polish hardcore psychorap album, notable also for being one of the earliest Polish releases to use live scratching. Most of the group were still minors when they recorded it. Over the years the lineup has shifted, but core members Abradab and Eprom have kept the group going. Their third album '3:44' was a critical and commercial breakthrough that earned them the prestigious Fryderyk award, one of five nominations the group has received. After a long gap, they returned in 2016 with 'Ułamek Tarcia' to widespread acclaim and a spot back at the top of the Polish charts. With over a million albums sold, their footprint on Polish hip hop is hard to overstate.
