About
Also known as: RPS, Rychu, Rychu Peja SoLUfka, Solufka
Peja is the voice and driving force behind Slums Attack, the Polish rap group that put gritty, street level hip hop from Poznań on the map. His lyrics draw directly from a tough upbringing in Jeżyce, and that rawness gave the group a credibility that stretched well beyond Poland. He has shared the mic with American heavyweights including Onyx, Ice T, Jeru the Damaja, Masta Ace and AZ, which tells you something about the respect he earned internationally. The New York Times and The Source both took notice, a rare feat for a rapper working outside the English language. He picked up the Fryderyk prize in 2002, the Polish music industry's top honour, and appeared in the acclaimed documentary Blokersi in 2001. Slums Attack called it a day in 2016, but Peja has kept going as a solo act, continuing to release music under his own name.
